Adult-Use Marijuana is Now Legal in New York State
In April 2021, New York State legalized adult-use marijuana. The legalization law creates a state Office of Cannabis Management that will regulate adult-use marijuana in a manner inspired by the existing alcoholic beverage regulatory system. Businesses seeking to cultivate, process, distribute, or engage in retail sales of marijuana will be required to obtain a license. It will still be several months until license applications are available. There are still many open questions. Given our firm's depth of knowledge and experience with alcoholic beverage regulation, we have been at the forefront of the adult-use marijuana licensing conversation. We are now available for marijuana licensing consultations.
